9. Message lead times
SMS is immediate, concise and impactful however, the immediacy of a text message means particular attention needs to be paid to their lead time. Sending messages too far in advance of their call to action can diminish their impact, while a short lead time could decrease the ability of recipient to act at all.
Hint: The context of your message should determine its lead time – always allow a minimum of 48 hours for inspection reminders, open home alerts should be sent both 24 hours earlier and 1 hour before open and arrears should be sent on the day of instance.
Appropriate language is important when composing your message. While some abbreviations are common practice for SMS messaging, assuming that your recipients are all at the same level of understanding can be detrimental. Use as few abbreviations and acronyms as possible when composing your text to ensure nothing is left up to interpretation.
